What is Talk Like a Pirate Day?
Talk Like a Pirate Day is nationally recognised in Australia as the major fundraiser for Childhood Cancer Support. It is an opportunity for schools, childcare centres, community groups and work places to come together to raise funds for a great cause.
The day is all about dressing up and having fun while making a difference to the lives of childhood cancer families.
When is Talk Like a Pirate Day?
The official Talk Like a Pirate Day is 19th of September. However you can host your event any time in September to work in with your existing commitments.
September is also National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
How does my fundraising help?
Childhood Cancer Support receives no ongoing government funding. We rely on community donations and events like Talk Like a Pirate Day to keep our doors open. Fundraising allows us to provide our services free of charge to all.
Many critical support services for regional and rural families such as family accommodation and transport to and from accommodation to the hospital are not provided by either state or federal government. That’s where Childhood Cancer Support steps in. Since 1975, it has been our mission to provide practical, hands-on support and accommodation for regional children with cancer and their families.
Importantly, Childhood Cancer Support provides a qualified Family Social Worker on-site to provide emotional and practical support to each member of the oncology family.
Your fundraising will help us build a new 15 unit accommodation facility in East Brisbane close by the Queensland Children's Hospital. This accommodation is vital for our families so they can have easier access to medical treatments for their child. Just know that the more you fundraise, the closer we will be towards our goal of completing this new facility.
Childhood Cancer Support is a helping hand at a time when the families need it most. That’s why we’re here and why your fundraising is so important.
Are donations tax deductible?
All donations over $2.00 are tax-deductible. You will receive a tax receipt by email.
